The Association of the Disabled People in Benidorm, Asmibe, today has set up its traditional solidarity market at Gambo and Martínez Alejos streets on the occasion of the celebration of the International and European Day of People with Disabilities. An activity that this year celebrates its twenty-third edition and in which eleven associations and centers have taken part such as AFA, Aerbeco, Asofiben, Ahedysia, TAPIS, AFEM, APCA, Fundación Relleu, Anémona and Doble Amor.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the councillor of Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the municipal corporation, has accompanied Asmibe at the inauguration of the solidarity market. At noon, after the introduction of Mari Fernández, president of Asmibe, the councillor read a manifesto that, on the occasion of the anniversary, was drawn up by the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), of which the group is a member. Benidorm.

The document calls for “a Social Europe, a Europe of the people, a Europe that defends and preserves the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with disabilities and their families.”

The recent proposal for a European Directive establishing the European Disability Card and the European Parking Card for People with Disabilities has been evaluated “positively” in the manifesto, “which responds to a demand from civil society of the disability, to which Spain and CERMI have contributed largely.” Thus, it has been pointed out that the semester of the Spanish Presidency of the EU "is an opportunity to promote an agile adoption process that allows this long-awaited European directive to be adopted and applied in the shortest possible time."
