The brotherhoods and fraternities parade through the city center in an atmosphere of reflection, solemnity and emotion
The Holy Burial procession brings together thousands of faithful on Good Friday night in Benidorm
The Procession of the Holy Burial once again drew hundreds of residents and visitors to Benidorm last night, who took to the streets to experience the largest procession of the Holy Week on Good Friday night. The city's six brotherhoods and confraternities participated in a parade marked by reflection, emotion, and solemnity.
The procession departed at 8:30 p.m. from the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and travelled for several hours through some of the main streets of the historic center and the city center, including Alameda Alcalde Pedro Zaragoza, Los Ángeles, Pintor Lozano, Ricardo, Martínez Alejos Streets, Paseo de la Carretera, and Santa Faz Street, before finally returning to Sant Jaume Square.
The official delegation was headed by the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, accompanied by members of the City Council. Senators Agustín Almodóbar and Gerardo Camps also attended, as did regional deputies José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll, along with the president of the Governing Board of Brotherhoods and Fraternities, a position held this year by Manuel Olvera, the senior brother of the Royal Brotherhood of Hope and Peace and Our Father Jesus of Health and Humility, and representatives from other Holy Week-related organisations and various parishes in the city.
Alongside the brotherhoods and fraternities of Benidorm, members of the State Security Forces—Local Police, National Police, and Civil Guard—marched, escorting the processional floats, in addition to the legionnaires who accompany the Christ of the Good Death.
In addition to the floats and platforms, processional music played a prominent role in the evening. The Holy Burial procession featured the Xirimiters de la Marina, the Virgen del Sufragio Musical Group, the Mare Nostrum Band of Cornets and Drums from Quart de Poblet (Valencia), Benidorm Unión Musical band, S. M. l’Illa band, and S. M. La Nova band.
The Holy Week celebrations in Benidorm will conclude tomorrow, Easter Sunday, with Masses in all the town's parishes. At 8:00 a.m., the Procession of El Encuentro between the Virgin Mary and the Risen Christ will depart from the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna. Afterwards, Alameda Street will host the traditional ‘Ambaixà de l’Àngel’, which this year will be performed by the young girl Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez.
