‘Flotar’ by Antje Wichtrey and ‘Planets’ by Isidro Blasco arrive at Benidorm Virtual
A year ago, Boca del Calvari Museum inaugurated ‘Flotar’ by Antje Wichtrey (1966) and ‘Planets’ by Isidro Blasco (1962), a double exhibition that brought to Benidorm for the first time the unique world of color by the German artist, who has a studio in Granada, and the three-dimensional images of the Madrid-born artist, based in New York.
With this, “there are now nine exhibitions that have moved from Boca del Calvari to Benidorm Virtual,” noted the Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, in addition to the one recently added from the Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna.
“Thousands of people,” Pellicer said, “were able to see the exhibition in person, and from now on, many more, from anywhere in the world, will be able to do so thanks to technology.” The virtual exhibition can be accessed at benidormvirtual.com
Wichtrey's work, created on lightweight Japanese paper, captures, in a wide range of colours, the elements that, according to the artist, "float" on the "little blue dot" that is our planet in the universe. Blasco, for his part, shows us his unique vision of major cities around the world, including Benidorm, through digitised images and the use of construction materials.
Ana Pellicer noted that accessing Benidorm Virtual "is very simple." "From our mobile phone, tablet, computer, or virtual reality glasses." The user accesses a web portal where "they only have to select which exhibition they want to explore in a 360º environment, with links to each of the creations, audio or video files, and information about the artists and works."
Finally, the councilwoman highlighted the use of technology to "bring art closer" to people who cannot physically access the museum. “Another way –he said– to break down the barriers faced by people with reduced mobility,” in line with the accessibility and inclusivity policies developed by Benidorm City Council.
