The Castle and the Tossal shine blue and white colors of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge, the patroness saint; on Monday, the red of Sant Jaume, the patron saint

‘Fiesta en Benidorm’ pasodoble, after the ringing of the bells, greeted the people of Benidorma in what would be the start of their Major Patron Festivities

07 November 2020
El pasdoble 'Festa a Benidorm', després del volteig de campanes, va saludar als benidormers en el que seria l'inici de les seues Festes Majors Pa...

The pasodoble “Fiesta en Benidorm” sounded today on local radio stations and on the urban public address system at different points of the city, at 12:30 pm and after the traditional ringing of the bells, commemorating that Benidorm, under normal conditions, would have been an explosion of festive joy, at the beginning of its 2020 Patron Saint Festivities that the incidence and recommendations against Covid have advised to suspend in terms of recreational events and holidays.

In this same ideology, to maintain the spirit of festive commemoration of the city, the artistic lighting that enhances both the Benidorm Castle and the Tossal de la Cala will shine these days with blue and white colors, in honor of the patron saint, La Mare de Déu del Sofratge, with the exception of Monday night, which will turn red, in commemoration of the patron saint Sant Jaume.

"Fiesta en Benidorm", pasodoble dance of which the musician Rafael Doménech Pardo is the author -who for 27 years led the baton of Benidorm Musical Union-, is, since 2018, the Official Anthem of Benidorm's Major Festivities and according to the ranking of interpretations in popular festivals of the General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE) is, after the musical piece “Paquito 'el Chocolatero'”, the most performed in festivals and band competitions, having reached international level, with performances in France and Portugal, and come to the cinema.

As for the celebrations of religious acts, these are transferred, for prevention reasons, to the main Auditorium of the Parque de l'Aigüera that -with controls of capacity and temperature, as well as dispensers of hydroalcoholic gel- will accommodate 400 people who will be able to attend the main celebrations in honor of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge and Sant Jaume Apòstol, who are the ones who organize the main events, to which are traditionally added the fun and festive events of great participation and success that on this occasion have been postponed.

In both religious celebrations there will be a special memory for those victims because of the pandemic.

Both the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Fiestas councilor, Jesús Carrobles, have appealed to everyone's responsibility to avoid unnecessary contacts and minimize the impact of Covid19, which has been conditioning our usual lives, activities and celebrations in recent months, encouraging to always observe preventive health measures.

The economic amount that Benidorm City Council allocates for the festivities, with the approval of all the festive entities of Benidorm and especially the Committee of Patron Festivities and the Association of Clubs, has been allocated to the program of aid to families and commercial activity and business of residents of Benidorm.
