The Police have identified and denounced the pilot of a drone that was putting at risk the work of air resources

The extinction tasks because of the fire declared in Armanello area has not stopped yet

16 May 2023
Incendio

At the moment, the work to extinguish the fire that broke out early in the afternoon of this Tuesday in the Armanello area continues, and in which air and land means are working. The fire started shortly before 4:00 p.m. in a plot near the Armanello path and Almirall de Sarrià Avenue and has spread towards Comunidad Valenciana Avenue.

Six units of the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters moved to the area, plus a unit of Forest Firefighters from the Generalitat Valenciana and two air units.

The means of extinction have been joined by endowments of Benidorm Local Police and the National Police Corps. Members of both bodies responded to various incidents caused by the flight of drones in the area of the fire that were putting the action of aerial means at serious risk. Thus, thanks to the drone detection system, it was possible to locate and intercept an aircraft when it was flying over the fire.

As reported by the Councilor for Public Service, Lorenzo Martínez, the Local Police Air Unit, in coordination with the National Police Corps, identified the pilot of the drone, who had already been reported to the Spanish Air Safety Agency (AESA). ). In the same way, and apart from possible administrative sanctions, in a few hours, the complaint will be filed with the judicial authority so that the corresponding legal actions can be taken in response to the dangerous situation generated by the flight of this aircraft and the extinction tasks carried out by air means.

On the other hand, pending the conclusions of the investigation, "the evidence obtained on the ground and the images collected so far suggest that the fire could have had several sources."

Predictably, during the night, work will continue to cool down the area of the fire, in which there have been no reports of personal injury. Also, within the device, the Camino de l'Armanello will remain closed to traffic at night.
