Equality reissues this course the gender awareness campaign and non-discrimination in Secondary Schools
The Department of Equality of Benidorm City Council will reissue in the 2021/2022 school year the gender awareness campaign and non-discrimination in the Secondary Education Institutes (IES) of the city. At the forefront of this campaign based on workshops and talks is a technical team made up of two Equality agents and two Gender Equality promoters.
The mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, explained that “this campaign, with which the Department of Welfare collaborates, has different workshops, with which it is intended to bring the concepts and values related to gender equality closer to students in Compulsory Secondary Education and non-discrimination based on sex, gender expression and sexual identity or orientation ”.
Zaragozí detailed that "during the 2020/2021 academic year 127 awareness sessions have been given in four IES, reaching more than 750 students." Talks on ‘LGTBI Diversity’ have been held in the four centers, in which “equal treatment and non-discrimination are promoted” and in which “the group is informed of the care resources available to them”. "It is essential - she added - that students become aware of affective-sexual diversity and are trained in respect to avoid possible situations of school bullying."
In addition to this workshop, in one of the centers there have also been talks on 'Feminism', 'Romantic love' and 'Egalitarian masculinity', with the aim of “offering a more complete perspective of these issues in order to promote ways of being and act more respectful, tolerant, inclusive and egalitarian ”.
The councilor has advanced that "for next year we are also going to add a workshop on 'Gender Violence' and probably extend this activity to the fifth IES in the city, which has already shown interest in participating in this campaign" .
Zaragozí thanked “all the institutes for the support and trust they have shown in this Department and in the technicians and promoters of this awareness campaign”, with which “from the hand of the IES we reach the youth to raise awareness, teach and promote values that have to be very on the rise ”.
