The City Council and the Provincial Council co-finance this work, by which the roof is is going to be replaced and new stands and changing rooms are going to be created
The JGL approves the project to improve the accessibility of the ‘Raúl Mesa’ pavilion
The Local Government Board (JGL) of Benidorm City Council today has approved the basic and execution project for the extension and improvement of universal accessibility in ‘Raúl Mesa’ pavilion of ‘Guillermo Amor’ Sports City. A project "with which the humidity problems that this installation presents after more than 35 years in operation are solved and the facilities are dimensioned to the current sports needs", as explained by the mayor, Toni Pérez.
As the mayor has detailed, “the current roof will be replaced and new stands and changing rooms will be created, always taking into account accessibility criteria, thus updating the facilities of the 'Raúl Mesa' pavilion, extending its last life by at least 25 years and making it a much more comfortable and inclusive space for both athletes and spectators ”.
Toni Pérez recalled that "this project has received a subsidy of just over 294,000 euros from Alicante Provincial Council, within the call for 'Plan + Cerca 2020', so it will be a co-financed work by the provincial body and the City Council, which will contribute the remaining 275,000 euros ”.
The mayor has detailed that the extension of the pavilion “is going to be carried out towards the north, occupying the existing municipal land behind the stands of 'Guillermo Amor' football stadium up to the border with Vasco Núñez school". To guarantee accessibility in all this space, the current elevation would be lowered to the level of the track, thus avoiding steps and ramps.
The new stands, which will multiply the capacity of the pavilion, have been projected in this enlarged area. On the ground floor of the new bleachers, it is proposed, in turn, to create adapted and fully accessible public toilets, two changing rooms for athletes and another two for refrees, and warehouses.
Once the project is approved, the specifications will be drawn up to tender the work, which has an execution period of 6 months. As the councillor recalled, the last plenary session approved the budget modification to take on this work.
Toni Pérez has stressed that "when planning this extension and improvement of ‘ Raúl Mesa ’pavilion, the integration of the new spaces into the environment has been prioritized"; and he stressed that "with this investment we continue to deepen our strategy of constant improvement of the facilities of " Guillermo Amor "Sports City to provide the sportsmen and women of Benidorm with the best possible infrastructures".
