188 students are interested in this service, which will have 8 stops
The City Council will provide the transport service to Sant Vicent campus of the UA and students will be granted with part of the transportation cost
Benidorm City Council is going to provide the university transport service to Sant Vicente del Raspeig campus of the University of Alicante (UA), subsidizing the students part of the cost of the trip, as reported today by the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno. After considering different alternatives for the provision of the service and sounding out the potential demand, a contract will be signed with a collective passenger transport company, which will provide the buses necessary for the provision of the service. The City Council will assume 33% of the cost of the trip of the registered students in Benidorm; Cost that will be discounted directly to the user, while the remaining amount will be paid by the students.
The mayor explained that "the service will begin to be provided on September 13, the date set for the start of the teaching activity" and "will have eight stops." These stops will be located at: Severo Ochoa avenue, next to the Lope de Vega school; Ametlla del Mar in front of Mercaloix; Avenida del Mediterráneo next to Mediterráneo 17 commercial establishment; Avenida de Alfonso Puchades next to the Nuevo Nevada cafeteria and next to Economy supermarket; avenida de Jaime I next to Burger King; Spanish Armada at the height of Poseidón Playa hotel; and Villajoyosa avenue next to Café Fresno.
For the use of this transport, the City Council will provide students who meet the requirements with a bus pass, in which 33% of the price of the service assumed by the local administration will already be discounted. In the near future, the students registered in Benidorm will be informed how to apply for said pass.
According to data transferred by the councilor, "to date, 188 students have responded to the call made by the Department of Education to know the real demand for this university transport and thus be able to calculate the number of buses that are needed." However, any interested student can still communicate it to the Council through the email educacio@benidorm.org.
Moreno has emphasized that “guaranteeing the university transport to the campus of Sant Vicent del Raspeig of the UA to the students of Benidorm has always been a priority for this government team, both in the past school year and in the face of the new one, which It starts in just over two weeks ”.
Thus, he recalled, “when Benidorm Association of University Students (ABEU) decided last March suddenly to stop providing the service, the City Council took the pertinent steps so that the students of Benidorm were attended by the Vilera Association of University Students (Assoveu), who managed the transport to the UA of the students of our city that joined that entity ”.
At the end of the last school year, “we began to study different alternatives to guarantee the service so that Benidorm students could travel to Sant Vicent del Raspeig campus and regularly continue their studies as they had been doing until now; fulfilling, as we have done, the commitment that we assumed with the university community of the city ”.
