Boca del Calvari museum hosts an exhibition on the 50 years of Queens and the staging of the Find

13 November 2021
Inauguración exposición 50 años de Reinas y escenificación del Hallazgo. Boca del Calvari

Boca del Calvari Museum in Benidorm is hosting an exhibition until next January 9 that reviews the 50 years of Queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, as well as the staging of the Finding of the patron. And it is that in this 2021 it is half a century since the figure of the Queen of the Festes was established and the first representation of the Trobada de la Mare de Déu del Sofratge.
The inauguration took place yesterday afternoon with the presence of the Greater and Infant Queens, Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster, as well as Mayor Toni Pérez, the Party Councilor, Jesús Carrobles, members of the municipal corporation, the national deputy Agustín Almodóbar, the president of the Commission, Batiste Rostoll, that of the Associació de Penyes, Adrián Romero, the president of ACR La Barqueta, Francisco Llorens, and hundreds of neighbors who did not want to miss the appointment.
The exhibition will open to the public starting today, Saturday, and will be open until January 9 to make it easier for the maximum number of residents and tourists to enjoy it.
At the inauguration, the mayor stressed that the exhibition "is based on the generosity of the people" with special mention of the previous queens "who have left a good part of their wardrobe." The exhibition, Pérez added, "is already part of the history of the city."
Toni Pérez also explained that the emergence of the figure of the Queens and the staging of the Trobada, promoted at that time by a group of volunteers linked to the theater and the Commission of that year 1971, represented "a turning point in the development of the celebrations in Honor of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge and Sant Jaume Apòstol ”. From that moment, he added, the festivities “grew bigger and won us more splendor”, until they became the celebrations that we “know and enjoy” today.
The mayor highlighted that from the City Council "this exhibition has been promoted with great care and with the utmost affection" both to the women who have held the position of Queens during this half century and to the act that "captures a reliable historical fact", the Finding of the patron, which has the status of a Festival of Autonomous Tourist Interest.
Before proceeding to the formal cutting of the ribbon, the exhibition was blessed by the parish priest of the Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana, Mr. Juan Antonio González Magaña
The exhibition has had the complicity and collaboration of ARC La Barqueta and the protagonists of these 50 years of Reinas or their families. In it, a journey is made through the evolution of the costumes and props of the highest figure of the Festes and the women who have held this position over half a century, starting with Pepa Zaragoza Ivars, Reina in 1971, or Mari Carmen Such Ronda, who was the first child queen in 1972. In the same way, the exhibition shows and brings the public the history and evolution of the staging of the Trobada de la Mare de Déu.
The exhibition space on the mezzanine floor is dedicated to the Queens and the other half to the staging of the Trobada. A Trobada that is the main character on floor -1 of the museum; while the one dedicated to the Queens occupies the first and second floors.
