The 'benimanchegos' celebrate the day of Castilla-La Mancha

26 May 2018
Los ‘benimanchegos’ celebran el día de Castilla-La Mancha

Around 200 people accompanied this afternoon to the House of La Mancha in Benidorm and the region in celebration of the Day of Castilla-La Mancha in the city, an event that is officially commemorated on May 31.

At the ceremony that began after 6.15 pm, were present the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Perez, the councilman of Fiestas, Jesus Carrobles, and other colleagues who have accompanied the queens Senior and Children of the Festes Majors Patronals, Fatima Carrobles and Anna Calbo and the presidents of the Comissió de Festes and the Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge'. The celebration began with the election of 'Quijote' and the 'Manchega de Honor' of 2018, positions that today are held by Pepe Alarcón and M. Carmen Alarcón.

Subsequently, in his speech, Toni Pérez recalled the qualifier "affectionate" with which the mayor Pedro Zaragoza referred to the natives of La Mancha: 'benimanchegos', and stressed the important role of this community in cultural and social life from the city. "Castilla-La Mancha," said the mayor, "has a careful and enviable cultural heritage that you have been able to share with everyone" because "the soul of Castilla-La Mancha are people, good people and an example of this are Maricarmen and Pepe ", Manchega de Honor and Quijote 2018.

The maintainer of the Day of Castilla-La Mancha in Benidorm has been the deputy of Culture of the Diputación de Cuenca, Francisco Javier Doménech who in his speech has made a review of the cultural and landscape richness of the entire province. After his words, the Group of Choirs and Dances 'El Trillo' of Albacete, has played six songs, typical of the folklore of the region.
