Benidorm will renew all the drinking water and sewage infrastructures in Ondulada street

03 February 2022
Benidorm renovará todas las infraestructuras de agua potable y alcantarillado en la calle Ondulada

Benidorm City Council will begin in 15 days the works to renovate the drinking water and sewage infrastructure in Ondulada street, a work that will include a new asphalt paving, the widening of sidewalks with anti-slip pavement and the installation of a new medium-high power line, among other improvements.
The councillors of Citizen Participation and Public Space, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González de Zárate have visited the area this morning, accompanied by the vice-presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario, and residents of this neighbourhood, to whom they explained the details of the improvements that are going to be undertaken in a matter of days.
However, before the start, a series of preliminary works will be carried out to enable the obligatory traffic diversions and ensure that the effect on pedestrian and vehicle mobility is minimal.
The planned execution period is three months for the execution of the works and the budget amounts to 237,910.17 euros.
The Councilor for Public Space. José Ramón González de Zárate has highlighted that it is a "very important work that will greatly improve accessibility and all services". In that sense, the mayor has indicated that "there were problems with the current paving because people slip on rainy days and we wanted to change it for a long time." Before doing so, he continued "we analyzed whether the infrastructure had to be changed and when confirming that it was, a valued report has been made and the works will be financed by Hidraqua concessionaire charged to the Investment Fund".
The technical reports have determined in this regard that the current infrastructure of the street is in a state of advanced deterioration due to its age and needs an adaptation of materials. Thus, Ondulada street has an asbestos-cement drinking water infrastructure, "which can cause health problems for those who handle and operate with that material." González de Zárate has explained in this regard that with this renewal "you gain in power, quality and savings since leaks were produced".
As for the sewerage network, it is made up of very old collectors "that show structural deterioration and give rise to problems of bottlenecks and drainage". What is intended with this substitution is "to improve the supply conditions and update the materials of the pipes, changing the asbestos cement for ductile cast iron and the inadequate material of the drinking water connections".
The execution of the works will cause cuts and changes in road traffic. However, the work will be paralyzed at Easter and the pedestrian and vehicle passage will be enabled. "Later, work will continue at the normal pace for vehicles and pedestrians," the councillor clarified.
For her part, the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, has highlighted "the importance of working together with the Neighborhood Council" as the best way to obtain positive results. “It is essential to listen to them and work as a team to have positive synergies in the performances that take place week after week”.
In this case, as she specified, the work in this street was going to be carried out with funds from the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) "but we have decided to do it before because of the complaints about the falls due to the slope of the street and the little adherence of the ground”.
In addition to the aforementioned works, an agreement has been reached with Iberdrola to install a new medium-voltage underground power line that will complement the change in public lighting that will be carried out with the program financed with IDAE funds. Likewise, an agreement has been reached with the promoter of a high-rise public car park that is being built on the street to be in charge of urbanizing the section corresponding to its façade with non-slip pavement and new asphalt.
