The Governing Board has approved the project so that the complex is self-sufficient with clean and renewable energy, consolidating the municipal commitment to continue being a benchmark in sustainability
Benidorm will install solar panels in Guillermo Amor sports city that will also supply 2 schools
The Local Government Board of Benidorm City Council has approved a project to install photovoltaic panels in the Guillermo Amor sports city; an action included in the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) of Benidorm. With this action, the City Council reaffirms its drive for energy efficiency and the use of clean energy in municipal buildings.
“With the implementation of solar panels, we continue to improve our infrastructure, making them more efficient,” explained the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez. “This is how we continue to build the sustainable and green Benidorm that we have been designing in recent years, conserving natural resources and improving public services for citizens, an ideal place to come and live.”
This action to improve municipal energy efficiency will install photovoltaic equipment that, with an approximate production of 198KW, will supply the energy needs of the sports complex facilities, the CEIP Aitana school, and the CEIP Vasco Nuñez nursery school. It is estimated that with solar panels, it will be possible to cover 87% of the electrical consumption of these municipal buildings in the EDUSI zone, thus reducing the carbon footprint and the electricity bill of the City Council.
“The installation of these solar panels not only allows us to reduce the City Council's carbon footprint, as we have already been doing with the new LED lighting or the sensorization of the water network, but it also allows us to raise awareness among citizens. of the need to change to a more efficient, green, and environmentally friendly model,” added Mayor Toni Pérez. “Benidorm is already synonymous with the efficient and sustainable use of water and today we continue to associate our municipality with sustainability through the installation of clean energy generators.”
The expected execution time for this work is about 8 weeks. The investment in the photovoltaic implementation for self-consumption in Guillermo Amor Sports City amounts to 282,605.69 euros. Co-financed by the Benidorm City Council and the European FEDER funds, these works respond to the fourth line of action of the EDUSI: the improvement of energy efficiency and the generation of clean energy in municipal sports infrastructures.
This action complements another investment in photovoltaic energy by the City Council, also through European funds, made in recent months in a dozen municipal buildings and educational centers in the city.
