Benidorm promotes Elche's Jubilee Year with a travelling exhibition
For two weeks, Benidorm hosted a travelling exhibition commemorating the Jubilee Year of Elche, thus contributing to the promotion of this event, the town's devotion to the Virgin of the Assumption, and also the history, cultural and festive traditions, gastronomy, and natural spaces of the city of El Palmeral. The exhibition, entitled ‘Elche, Heaven on Earth,’ consists of eight double-sided panels and is installed in the central Elche Park, directly opposite the replica of the Dama de Elche that stands at the entrance closest to Paseo de Colón.
On the last day of the exhibition, the mayors of Benidorm and Elche, Toni Pérez and Pablo Ruz, toured the display, which had previously been shown in cities such as Madrid, Valencia, and Murcia. Accompanying the two mayors were Benidorm's Councillor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, and her colleague from Public Works and Spaces, Francis Muñoz. and to the Councillor for Tourism and Culture of Elche, Irene Ruiz.
With this exhibition, a result of the collaboration between the Department of Historical Heritage and Visit Elche, both municipalities have once again strengthened their ties.
After touring the exhibition, the group moved to the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España to attend the children's mascletà (firecracker display) and candy firecrackers organised by the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals (Commission for the Patron Saint Festivals), two of the final events in the program of Benidorm's main festival days.
