The fourth day of festivities begins with the traditional requiem mass and visits to cemeteries to honor those who are no longer with us
Benidorm pays tribute to the deceased and vibrates at midday with a thunderous mascletà (traditional Valencian fireworks display)
Benidorm Patron Saint Festivities paid tribute this Tuesday to the residents of Benidorm who have passed away with the traditional requiem mass at the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna. Following the mass, wreaths of laurel and flowers were laid at the Monument to the Fallen at Plaza de la Senyoría and at the city's two cemeteries. This was the central event of the morning's official program of festivities, with a Eucharist officiated by Benidorm parish priest Jaume Benaloy, who has returned to the city after more than fifteen years as a missionary in the Peruvian town of Chimbote, and Father Juan Antonio González.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros; And other members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as the general director Angélica Such, participated in this religious celebration along with the presidents of the Comissió and the Associació de Penyes, Susana Martínez and Jonathan López; the perpetual president of the Festes Majors Patronals, Francisco Llorens, Rosera; and the 2025 queens, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez, along with their courts of honour.
As in the two previous days, dozens of Benidorm residents filled the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Ana to attend this requiem mass and have a moment of prayer and remembrance for their deceased relatives.
Afterwards, the entire procession moved to Plaça de la Senyoria, where the festival queens, the mayor, and the councillor for Fiestas laid two laurel wreaths next to the sculpture of Juan de Ávalos. They then proceeded in a parade, first to the Sofratge Green Cemetery and then by bus to the Sant Jaume Cemetery, where they repeated this ritual. At both cemeteries, festival participants and citizens also took the opportunity to bring flowers to their loved ones.
At 2:00 p.m., with perfect punctuality, Avinguda de Jaume I became the epicenter of another fireworks display, in which the Vulcano pyrotechnics company once again delighted the public. The mascletà, with 80 kilos of explosives and a deafening final explosion, is the last one to be set off at these Patron Saint Festivities, leaving the public with a very positive impression and high expectations for the Fireworks Display scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, after the Parade of Floats.
After several days in which the official program has revolved around religious events, the more lighthearted days begin this afternoon. At 7:00 PM, the Parade of Humour is scheduled to begin, organised by the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge (Association of Clubs of the Virgin of Suffrage), in which a total of nine clubs have registered to participate. It will start from Venus Street and travel along Ruzafa and Martínez Alejos, this year without the traditional stops, which have been eliminated by the Association.
The Patron Saint Festivities conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12th, with the main festival, a children's firework display, and the parade of floats. The full program of events can be found on the municipal website (link provided) and on all official Benidorm City Council communication channels.
