The program will run from May 16 to 19 and aims to promote and disseminate the richness of local heritage and talent among the public
Benidorm is organizing guided tours of Boca del Calvari and a new open-air exhibition to mark Museum Day
The Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Benidorm City Council has organised a special program to mark International Museum Day, celebrated worldwide on May 18th, to bring cultural and artistic heritage closer to the public through educational activities and a new exhibition. The councillor for the department, Ana Pellicer, explained that among the scheduled activities are guided tours of the permanent collection at Boca del Calvari Museum and the temporary collection at Sómnica Bernabeu, as well as the launch of a new photographic exhibition about Benidorm, which can be visited in the Urban Art Spaces located throughout the city.
Regarding the guided tours of Boca del Calvari archaeological collection, Pellicer explained that these will take place on May 18th and will be led by the archaeologist from Tossal de La Cala, who will provide explanations about all the pieces on display. These visits will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will consist of approximately 15-minute tours for small groups of 15 people, allowing for a more intimate and participatory experience. To register for these guided tours, email visitatossal@benidorm.org.
According to Pellicer, this initiative "aims to offer a detailed overview of the archaeological and heritage collections housed in this museum, to raise awareness among the public about the history and cultural richness of Benidorm and to highlight its value."
Two days earlier, on Saturday, May 16, at 12:30 PM, another guided tour is scheduled at Boca del Calvari, this time focusing on the temporary exhibition 'Iberian Series' by the Alicante artist Sómnica Bernabeu. The councilwoman noted that this is a contemporary art collection that reinterprets the Iberian legacy of the Alicante coast, highlighting the female figure, spirituality, and leadership, and that the visit with the artist is “a great opportunity to learn all the details of each of the works that comprise it, their inspiration and motivations, firsthand.”
The activities will conclude on May 19, when the exhibition “Benidorm, somni vertical,” by Benidorm-born teacher and photographer Maria José Lozano, will open to the public at the city's Urban Art Spaces. The first visit to this exhibition will take place on Tuesday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m., departing from Espai d’Art de Ponent. The exhibition brings together a total of 50 images that offer an artistic and contemporary perspective on the urban landscape and the unique verticality that characterises Benidorm.
The Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage explained that, with these activities, “Benidorm joins once again in the international celebration of Museum Day, an event promoted to highlight the role of museums as spaces for cultural exchange, knowledge, and citizen participation,” and also “promoting the richness of our heritage and supporting local talent.” Therefore, Ana Pellicer invited the residents of Benidorm to participate and enjoy them.
