The installation was proposed by the residents through the Participatory Budget and has involved an investment of just over 17,000 euros
Benidorm improves and expands the calisthenics zone on Poniente beach
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, accompanied by the councilors for Sports, Citizen Participation, and Beaches, Javier Jordá, Ana Pellicer, and Mónica Gómez, toured the facility early this morning, minutes before the first users began their morning workouts.
The project was one of the most voted proposals in the 2025 Participatory Budgeting process and involves the expansion of the callisthenics ‘Street Workout’ area managed by the Beaches Department in Poniente, with the addition of “triple parallel bars, rings with chains, a reinforced freestyle bar, a pull-up bar, and wall bars,” the mayor explained.
All of this is made of galvanised metal with a zinc coating to prevent corrosion. “A finish,” he said, “guaranteed for 10 years against rust.” The exercise bars have also been reinforced with a special plastic coating, more resistant than conventional powder coating, with better adhesion and greater thermal insulation.
Toni Pérez specified that the project represented an investment of €17,382.86, from the 5% of the Municipal Budget (although this amount is always exceeded) allocated to the Participatory Budget, which, with the collaboration of the Neighbourhood Council, is proposed and voted on by the residents of Benidorm.
Furthermore, as a complement to the sports facility, a wooden walkway has been added to allow access for people with reduced mobility, thus expanding the number of potential users of a sports facility that, since its opening in April 2017, has become a meeting point for enthusiasts of this activity, which helps improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination through outdoor exercises in a privileged setting, such as our beaches.
Toni Pérez reminded everyone that the application period is open until September 30th. Submission of proposals for the 2027 Participatory Budget. All adults who wish to "submit actions they believe are necessary to improve Benidorm" are welcome to participate. Proposals can be submitted in writing, in person, by email to consejovecinal@benidorm.org addressed to the Department of Citizen Participation, and also online through the Participation Portal.
