Benidorm gives land in Poniente area to the Regional Goverment for the construction of 91 social homes
The Benidorm City Council will approve in the next ordinary plenary session, corresponding to March, the transfer to the Generalitat Valenciana of municipal land in the Poniente area for the construction of 91 social homes that will be awarded on a rental basis. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, has made this announcement public one day after the signing of a bilateral agreement between the regional secretary of Housing of the Generalitat Valenciana, Sebastián Fernández, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda to transfer 29 million of euros from Program 6 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) financed with NextGenerationEU Funds, and which the Generalitat will allocate to the construction of 685 social housing for affordable rental in the entire Valencian Community, that 91 will be located in Benidorm.
Specifically, it is a 4,000 square meter plot, located on Guatemala Avenue, in the Murtal 2 Partial Plan, "in the heart of Poniente and a top quality urban environment", announced this Wednesday Mayor Toni Pérez and explained that, after its official transfer, the Regional Government will tender the transfer of the land for the promotion and construction of the social homes that will be managed by the bidders under an affordable rental regime for an initial period of 50 years and up to a maximum of 75 years. After this period, they will revert to the municipal land and housing assets.
Likewise, he has indicated that the total investment of the Consell estimated for the different developments planned in this housing plan amounts to 97 million euros, of which more than 10 million euros will be invested in our city.
The mayor has highlighted “the desire that this local government had to be able to present a project of these characteristics, recovering the good work done in the last eight years and since the 1990 General Plan to expand the municipal land assets and to be able to provide social homes with affordable rents to Benidorm families who need it.”
Likewise, he recalled that the last promotion of social housing in our city ended in 2009, consisting of 82 apartments for seniors and young people in La Cala.
“We have been working on this project for many months,” managed by the Departments of Heritage and Urban Planning, “because the vocation of this mayor and this government team for public housing is unquestionable,” stated Toni Pérez.
The mayor has defined this action as “the largest public housing promotion in Benidorm in the democratic stage”, after which he has advanced that it is “the first of others to come, since our word and our commitment “The objective continues to promote the construction of 600 protected homes in the period 2023-2027.”
“This is betting on a social policy and a real housing policy, after eight years in which the contribution of those who have absolute competence – about the previous regional government – was zero. Meanwhile, in just eight months, the current Regional government has been able to generate land and possibilities,” Pérez applauded.
Finally, the Mayor has declared that “we have been experiencing a certain housing tension for some years now” and has been convinced that “this promotion, without a doubt, will benefit the residents of Benidorm, since the construction of these homes with affordable rental prices will automatically generate a direct opportunity for the people who are the beneficiaries, but it will also mean an additional offer in the market and will contribute to a better organization of this rental regime in the existing housing ”.
