Benidorm condemns the sexist violence that ends with the lives of three women in Spain this week

19 May 2021
Minuto de silencio

With a minute of silence at the doors of the town hall, Benidorm City Council has shown its strongest rejection, once again, for the sexist violence that has ended in the last hours with the lives of three women in Spain.

The acting mayor, José Ramón González de Zárate, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led the silent rally in which representatives of all the political groups in the consistory have participated.

The victims have been two women of 52 and 42 years of the Catalan towns of El Creixell (Tarragona) and Corbera de Llobregat (Barcelona), both supposedly murdered by their partners who, later, have committed suicide. The third victim was 28 years old and pregnant. Her body appeared lifeless, along with that of her 7-year-old son at her home in Sa Pobla (Mallorca).

With these victims, there are already 11 women who have lost their lives in Spain so far this year due to sexist violence. Scourge that also leaves three orphans. In total, there are 1,087 victims since the statistics began in 2003.

The Department of Equality recalls that the telephone number 016 attends to victims of gender violence 24 hours a day and in 51 languages. It leaves no trace on the bill, although it should be deleted from the call log.
