The students finalize the works that will complete the exhibition 'A Renaissance Aesthete', which is exhibited at Boca del Calvari Museum this Friday

Artistic Baccalaureate students of the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch study the figure of Admiral Julio Guillén Tato

30 January 2023
IES Pere Mª Orts de Benidorm

The students of the Artistic Baccalaureate of the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch will capture in different works their interpretation of the figure of the multifaceted Admiral Julio Guillén Tato, whose birth is 125 years old. Some works that will complement the exhibition 'A Renaissance esthete' that since last December has been exhibited at the Boca del Calvari Museum and in which his professional and vital career is addressed, his defense and contribution to the maintenance of roots and traditions, and his close and prolific relationship with our city that was endorsed with his designation as Adoptive Son.

These days, "the students are finalizing the works that, starting this Friday, can be seen on the second floor of the Museum and that give continuity to the exhibition that has been prepared with so much love to bring the figure closer to the local and visiting population. Guillén Tato, an absolutely exciting character”, as explained by the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer.

Pellicer visited the students at the IES facilities to see a preview of the works that will soon be exhibited in the museum. "Once -she has indicated- it is incredible to see the creativity, dedication, and sensitivity of our young aspiring artists, who through the exhibition 'A Renaissance Esthete' have discovered who the admiral was and have approached his figure".

The councillor is convinced that "it will be very interesting to learn how students under 18 years of age, from a current perspective, interpret and value a man of the stature of Julio Guillén Tato, who was undoubtedly a scholar who played and He practiced very diverse subjects”.

At this point, she recalled that the admiral and historian were "passionate about the sea and Benidorm". Director of the Naval Museum and member of the Royal Academy of Language and History, among other positions and occupations, Guillén Tato was also "one of the people most committed to the first development of Benidorm, working side by side with the mayor Pedro Zaragoza undertaking enthusiastic and altruistic actions that favored advances and improvements at the level of services and spaces from the 50s”.

Examples of this are the admiral's mediation to create a new school group in Benidorm or the land he ceded to the City Council to expand Plaça de la Senyoria, in whose design he was personally involved, as he also did with the remodeling of Carreró dels Gats or the Coastal Ship.

Pellicer thanked the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch “for its involvement in this project, as it has done in recent years with initiatives such as the annual exhibition of posters against gender violence that also bear the signature of the Artistic Baccalaureate students; the 'Benidorm Fet a Mà' campaign or the presentation of various galas of our Christmas Window Dressing Contest, both carried out in collaboration with students from the center's training cycles”.
