Those interested in participating in this ‘Festa de la Solidaritat’ can donate this afternoon, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Benidorm City Hall

This Tuesday, the Penyes Association organizes a solidarity day of blood donation

La Associació de Penyes organiza este martes una jornada solidaria de donación de sangre

Verge del Sofratge de Benidorm Penyes Association, in collaboration with the Valencian Community Transfusion Centre, is celebrating this Tuesday, September 10, a new edition of its traditional ‘Festa de la Solidaritat’, a blood donation day to help increase blood reserves and meet the needs of hospitals. The Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, explained that this is “the second blood donation day that the group of supporters is calling for this year after the one held last May” and has encouraged the population to “join this solidarity initiative by going to donate”.

‘Festa de la Solidaritat’ started this morning, between 9.30 and 13.30, and will continue in the afternoon, from 16.30 to 20.30, at Benidorm Town Hall, at Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España.

Mariló Cebreros pointed out that “a wide schedule has been provided to make it as easy as possible for members of the club and the general public to participate in this initiative that aims to save lives.” Thus, she recalled that “with a blood donation up to three lives can be saved” and she was convinced that “once again the group of members of the club and Benidorm will do their part, demonstrating their most altruistic and supportive side.”

The Councillor for Fiestas also pointed out that “the experience of previous years confirms that these days are always an opportunity to attract new donors who  respond to other calls made periodically by the Transfusion Centre since the need for blood remains high throughout the year.” 250 units of blood are needed every day in the Valencian Community to meet the demand of hospitals, especially for cancer patients but also for people who are victims of traffic accidents or who suffer blood loss due to surgery.

The only requirements to be able to donate are to be between 18 and 65 years old, to be in good health, to attend the appointment well hydrated, to weigh more than 50 kilograms and to carry an ID card or driving licence. Once the donation has been made, participants will receive solid and liquid food to regain strength.

At the last edition of the ‘Festa de la Solidaritat’, held in May, “104 effective donations were made, of which 16 were from new donors.”
