The mayor of Benidorm demands certainties, clarity, dates, regulations and vaccines to resume tourism activation

Toni Pérez: "The market penalizes lack of definition"

20 May 2021
Toni Pérez: «El mercado penaliza la indefinición»

The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez has participated in the second professional day of FITUR in the round table 'Resilience: strategies and measures to face the crisis' which, moderated by the president of the ITH, Francisco Javier García Cuenca, has had the participation of the eight municipalities that are members of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourist Municipalities.

Pérez has pointed out that "we need certainties and clarity, rapidly adaptable regulations, specific dates and vaccines that allow us to resume tourism activation" because we know that "the market penalizes lack of definition."

The mayor pointed out that “there has been and there is demand; but we still do not have the necessary international mobility ”, highlighting that“ the eight municipalities of the AMT compute 20% of the tourist overnight stays in this country ”. He then influenced "the strength of the Spain brand and its power of international attraction."

He claimed to complete as soon as possible "the vaccination process in an agile, fast and urgent way because other countries have already done it on the tourism fabric" and that "Tourism is at the core of the decisions." Destinations, Pérez stressed, "we have done our job and a good proof of this are the proposals with which we open ourselves to tourism this imminent summer." The mayor pointed out that "the eight municipalities of the AMT have demonstrated management and have established themselves as safe destinations", highlighting, below, the singularities of Benidorm

Pérez had an impact on "the fifteen months of hard work that we have been in, where Visit Benidorm has maintained the promotional action with innovative initiatives and that Visit Benidorm Travel has just launched to package the destination at the click of a button".

The mayor of Benidorm concluded his intervention by pointing out that “because of this situation, our tourist destinations are more and better prepared”.

The mayors of Lloret de Mar, Jaume Dulsat; Torremolinos, José Ortiz; Calviá, Alfonso Rodríguez; Arona, José Julián Mena; and Salou, Pere Granados, together with the councilors of Tourism of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, and of Adeje, Adolfo Alonso. The table, as a whole, pointed out the need to retake international markets, a national uniformity in the messages about the country as a whole, safe mobility and adequate financing.
