The society for the prevention of cruelty to animals will receive a grant of 40,000 euros from Benidorm City Council

This morning, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the president of the animal society, Pilar López Cepeda, have renewed their collaboration agreement for another year, which will allow the society to receive 40,000 euros that will be used for "the collection, custody and veterinary care” of the animals that are wandering around the city, indicated the Councilor for Health, Mónica Gómez.

“The society –explained Gómez- has accredited throughout its long career, being worthy of this subsidy” which will be used to cover the needs of abandoned animals collected on public roads. Likewise, the councillor has claimed the "important informative work" on "the respect and care" that all living beings deserve, carried out by the entity, while "providing an invaluable service" to people who own animals that, for various reasons, circumstances, they are unable to continue caring for them.

Finally, Mónica Gómez has called for citizenship responsibility, recalling that the adoption of an animal is "a very serious thing that links us to a living being." For this reason, the Municipal Environment Ordinance classifies the abandonment of domestic animals as a "very serious" offence and sanctions this uncivil behaviour with fines of up to 900 euros.
