Benidorm has kept this noon a minute of silence in memory of the last victim of sexist violence, confirmed yesterday by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, led a silent rally that paid tribute to the victim and showed the rejection of this social scourge.

On this occasion, the victim was a 52-year-old woman, childless, resident in the town of Alzira, in the Ribera Alta del Júcar, who was found dead on Tuesday, June 7. The body had gunshot wounds. The Civil Guard arrested the alleged murderer shortly after, her partner.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women murdered by sexist violence in Spain is 22 this year and 1,152 since 2003, when the data began.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has professionals in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
