Seven veterinary clinics of Benidorm collaborate and the treatment has a cost of only 18 euros

Sanidad launches the anti-rabies vaccination campaign from June 1

29 May 2018
Sanidad pone en marcha la campaña de vacunación antirrábica a partir del 1 de junio

The Department of Health of Benidorm City Council, in collaboration with the seven veterinary clinics of the city, will start, from Friday, 1 and until June 15, the eighth 'Campaign of rabies vaccination 2018', giving compliance to the regulations issued by the Ministry of Health, Environment, Climatic Change and Rural Development.

The municipal head of Health, Ana Pellicer, recalled "the obligation to vaccinate dogs, cats and ferrets" and that the animals participating in the campaign "will be recognized" and will be applied "a preventive antiparasitic treatment against the hydatid cyst, also obligatory according to the Law ". The rabies vaccine can be administered to these animals throughout the year but those who participate in the campaign will benefit from a significant discount, owners will only have to pay 18 euros.

"The objective of this campaign - Ana Pellicer emphasized - is to achieve a total vaccination coverage of dogs, cats and ferrets in our municipality as a fundamental measure to continue maintaining effective control and prevention of rabies." The councilwoman has been very satisfied with previous campaigns. "They have been a success," she said, because the number of vaccinated pets has increased and "double the average number of vaccinations from previous years" and that is largely "because veterinary centers refuse to receive part of the fees. During the campaign, they reduce prices appreciably because, it must be said, they do not receive any kind of public subsidy ", and the councilor thanked them for that.

With this municipal campaign all dogs that have implanted the compulsory identification chip, legally recognized and the mandatory veterinary passport can be benefited. Remember that the microchip is optional in the case of cats and ferrets. The sanitary recommendation is that the anti-rabies vaccine be applied annually, although the obligation depends on the type of product supplied. Rabies vaccination is carried out on animals from the third or fourth month of life.
