Benidorm joins the eighth edition of the Opera Week of Teatro Real de Madrid
The Royal Theater of Madrid moves with Turandot to the Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council
The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council has hosted live, within the program of activities of the Department of Culture, the broadcast of 'Turandot', an opera by Giacomo Puccini, which, on the occasion of the eighth edition of its Week of Opera, the Teatro Real de Madrid has offered, completely free of charge, to public and cultural entities throughout Spain.
Around 200 people have filled the municipal hall of Benidorm, which together with 130 other cultural institutions in the country, has thus joined the proposal of the Madrid theater.
'Turandot' is a lyrical drama in three acts that takes place in an idealized, from the perspective of the West, city of Beijing. There, the ruthless princess Turandot challenges her suitors to solve three riddles and if they do, they will win her heart. If not, they will die. One of them, Prince Calaf, in love with her, accepts her challenge and answers all three of her mysterious riddles, but he will also have to discover the true name of her infanta.
The most important moment of the play is when Calaf and Turandot face off in a musical and emotional duel. Love, passion, and sacrifice intertwine in a journey destined to melt the frozen heart of the princess.
'Turandot' is considered Puccini's masterpiece. The genius of Lucca (Tuscany, Italy) transports the viewer to a fantasy land. In this universe proposed by the stage director, the most important thing is light, line, and color from the first moment to the brilliant ending.
On the technical side, the opera has had musical direction by Nicola Luisotti and Diego García; the stage direction has been the creation of Bob Wilson and Anna Pirozzi, Vicenç Esteve, Liang Li, Jorge de León, Ruth Iniesta have played the main roles.
