Public Space department begins the works to improve accessibility on Catalán Chana avenue
Benidorm City Council has already started work to improve pedestrian accessibility of Alcalde Manuel Catalán Chana avenue “with the renovation and extension of the sidewalks of this road, the main access to Serra Gelada Natural Park and two such emblematic enclaves as La Cruz , Ti Ximo and l'Almadrava coves the Torre de Les Caletes ”, as the Mayor Toni Pérez has indicated today. This work is included within the project for ‘Improvement of road ssecurity and accessibility 2020’ with which in the next two months more 25 actions will be carried out throughout the city, several of them in Rincón de Loix.
Toni Pérez, who has visited the area together with the councillor of Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, has detailed that this action affects the section from the intersection of Bonn Street to Punta Llisera. “We are talking about about 400 meters of sidewalks that will go from being 1.30 meters wide to 1.95 meters; thus gaining in comfort, safety and, above all, in accessibility, since we adapt to the latest standards in this area ”.
Due to these works, during approximately the next two weeks the road traffic will have to be rearranged, in such a way that while the works last, Alcalde Manuel Catalán Chana avenue will remain one-way up. The fords, therefore, should exit through Sierra Dorada street. "Once the work is finished - the mayor has clarified -, the avenue will recover the double direction of circulation".
The mayor has specified that “in addition to working on the sidewalks, we are also going to renew the lighting, which will allow us to improve the lighting of this avenue of important pedestrian traffic, used daily by many people who choose to practice sports or go for a walk. through the surroundings of Serra Gelada and approach Torre de Les Caletes or La Cruz ”.
Another of the actions of the ‘Improvement of road security and accessibility 2020’ project is located precisely on the street up to La Cruz. Specifically, the asphalt of Pekín Street will be renewed, on whose route three roundabouts will be marked. A new parking area is also going to be created on this street, just before the access control point that will limit the passage of vehicles to La Cruz.
In this regard, the mayor recalled that Serra Gelada Cross is "one of the enclaves that we have included within the Low Emissions Zone, with which we want to reduce the intensity of traffic and the presence of polluting vehicles in Benidorm." Toni Pérez has pointed out that "in the access to La Cruz, as in the rest of the points included in the Low Emissions Zone, the priority is pedestrians, while the speed limitation will be 10 kilometers per hour".
The works on Alcalde Manuel Catalán Chana avenue are expected to be completed in approximately two weeks. Likewise, the works of the Peking street will begin throughout this month.
