Jaume Benaloy reviewed his childhood in Benidorm and encouraged the members of the brotherhood to share the faith

With the proclamation and presentation of its poster, Benidorm is ready to live Holy Week

01 March 2020
Con el pregón y la presentación de su cartel, Benidorm se prepara para vivir la Semana Santa

With the reading of the Proclamation of Holy Week, the most important celebrations of the Christian liturgical have oficially started in Benidorm. Brotherhoods and faithful gathered last night in the Parish Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna to participate in the act that announces the commemoration of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ, essence of faith.

The reading of the proclamation this year has been carried out by the priest of Jaume Benaloy, missionary of the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante in Chimbote (Peru), director of Continuing Education at the Catholic University Los Angeles de Chimbote, Christian activist, committed to the environmental recovery in this rich fishing and steel zone of the country ”.

The event was attended by the mayor, Toni Pérez, along with the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and a large representation of the municipal corporation. Also, among the public were the national deputy, Agustín Almodóvar, the autonomous, Manuel Pérez Fenoll and the presidents and older brothers of the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week and, of course, all the priests of Benidorm and faithful of all parishes

Jaume Benaloy, in his proclamation, reviewed the holy weeks of his childhood in Benidorm. The priest encouraged the members of the brotherhood to "share faith openly." This is the mission of the brothers "giving it" and "sharing it as good news for all", remembering the commandment of Jesus himself who ordered his disciples to be "the light of the world" and "the salt of the earth."

After the proclamation, Toni Pérez took the floor and claimed “that town of Benidorm” that Benaloy had previously referred to. The mayor called the preacher "father, friend and teacher of his people", exercising not only the "ministry, but also the teaching" in the Peruvian lands. Pérez asked “all of us who need to shout that life is worth it” to help others to meet a Holy Week, “as always, full of faith, good will and, above all, good deeds” .

During the act of the proclamation of the Holy Week in Benidorm, the poster announcing the commemoration, a work by the artist Mª Ángeles Ródenas, has also been presented.
