The plenary session of Benidorm City Council will approve the Municipal Action Plan (PAM) in its ordinary session in February in the face of the risk of Floods, which will be ruled on next Monday in informative commissions.

The main objective of this plan is to achieve a maximum protection for people, the environment and property that may be affected when this type of natural phenomenon occurs. To this end, as explained by Mayor Toni Pérez, "the plan establishes a hierarchical and functional structure of the means and resources of the municipality, public and private, which allows dealing with situations of risk or serious emergency".

Similarly, the Municipal Action Plan seeks to provide the organizational structure and operation for intervention in emergencies due to flooding in the municipality, as well as to determine the vulnerable elements based on the risk analysis and its levels in the different areas of the term. and delimit the areas according to possible intervention requirements.

This document also contemplates the action of specifying the information and alert procedures for the population and developing the catalogue of means and resources available in the municipality, as well as the mechanisms for its permanent updating, detailed information on the organization and operation of the plan, its implementation and maintenance.

The PAM has been prepared by the concessionary company of the Municipal Drinking Water and Sewerage service, Hidraqua, following the request made by the Department of the Water Cycle after the municipal Emergency Forecast Plans have been approved. "The Municipal Action Plan was born as a result of the continuous collaboration between Hidraqua and the City Council's Citizen Security and Engineering areas" the mayor specified.

Toni Pérez has remarked that the plan "plans the technical and human resources available to the city and establishes in a clear and diaphanous way how to act in the event of heavy rains and floods to guarantee the quality of life, safety and welfare of the people”.

The Sectoral Territorial Action Plan on Flood Risk Prevention in the Valencian Community (Patricova) and the National Cartography System identify the flood-prone areas of Benidorm on which the Municipal Action Plan is based.

According to these data, the most significant areas are located in the area of Barceló, Derramador and Murtal ravines. From the identification of these flood zones, 21 critical points have been defined in the municipality, all of them on urban land for predominantly residential use, in which the risk is based on the accumulation of water.
