Residents are conveying their demands to the City Council to resolve certain issues arising from the work

Yesterday, Benidorm City Council’s Departments of Citizen Participation and Urban Scene brought ‘A pie de calle’ campaign to the Poniente area. At the request of residents, officials visited the neighbourhood to explain the progress of the Jaime I underground parking construction project in detail and to gather feedback—including complaints, requests, and suggestions—regarding the work, which still has several months to go.

Ana Pellicer, Councillor for Citizen Participation and Acting Mayor, and Francis Muñoz, Councillor for Urban Scene, met with residents to invite specific suggestions regarding the construction work so that potential solutions could be explored. The primary complaints centred on the noise and vibrations caused by the machinery used for piling operations. In response, Muñoz explained that this phase of the work "has only a few days left and is scheduled to finish next week, meaning the bulk of the disturbance will disappear very soon." However, Muñoz acknowledged that he "understands the complaints regarding machinery noise," noting that "carrying out a project of this magnitude inevitably causes some inconvenience."

Another issue raised by residents concerned vibrations detected in some buildings due to the machinery. As with the noise, Muñoz noted that "this disturbance will also disappear in a few days." Nevertheless, the councillor added that "vibrations are being measured to determine if there is any risk or impact," and urged residents to "notify us if they detect any risky situation so we can resolve it as quickly as possible; that is why we are working with a company highly specialised in this type of project." In this regard, the Urban Scene councillor revealed that "we are using three piling rigs instead of the usual one to speed up the entire process." During the visit, the modifications made to vehicular traffic and potential questions that might arise once the work is completed were also addressed. “The changes that have been made are working,” noted Muñoz; when asked about the new roundabout to be built once the project is finished, he stated that it “will improve traffic flow” and clarified that “it was not designed for buses to make U-turns at that location.”
