Over 700 visits to archaeological performances in Benidorm Castle

29 August 2019
Superadas las 700 visitas a las actuaciones arqueológicas en el Castillo de Benidorm

The Department of Historical Heritage scheduled visits to the archaeological prospectings that are being developed at the Castle square of Benidorm, within the chapter of actions for the consolidation of lithology of Punta Canfali that will involve the straightening of the strata and the injection of consolidating resins, under the FEDER Operational Program 2014-2020 to recover Valencian Cultural Heritage.

After registering those interested in the council, the groups and schedules were organized with guided views and explained by the archaeologists working on the action that planned the sight circuit to preserve the integrity of the outcrops and allow the continuity of work .

Initially six daily visits of twenty-five minutes were scheduled for groups of ten-twelve people, between six in the afternoon and nine at night, which still sunlight, for the days 22 and 23 of August . The mayor, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, and other members of the Government Team have always accompanied the visits.

Immediately, before the number of registrations, both the number of members of each group and the number of days of visit were expanded, with the extension scheduled for August 26 and 27, although the visits this Tuesday - due to the meteorological situation - were They moved to the afternoon of Wednesday, August 28. After yesterday's last visit, at 8:30 pm, Councilwoman Ana Pellicer showed her satisfaction "for the interest aroused with this initiative that has exceeded 700 visits."

Meanwhile, they have followed the archaeological actions that have managed to unearth new rooms and surface walls that confirm that the Benidorm Castle was wider than one could imagine before the traditional layout of the square, and confirm the dating of its construction, in the fourteenth century, from the date of the granting of the Pobla Charter, the order to build the castle and permission to battle. The last remains of perfectly dateable ceramics in the fourteenth century confirm this aspect as the excavations continue fulfilling a schedule that will give way, immediately, to the study of the elements and structures appeared and the definitive urbanization of the Plaza and Replaceta of the Castle of Benidorm .

Visitors have been able to express their impressions after the visit in the murals that the Lure Archeology team and the Department of Heritage had arranged for this purpose abounding childhood memories, the cultural reference that has always been the castle, pointing out in the interest of the work and the quality of the guides who made the guided tours.

Knowing something more about the future project has been the most widespread demand; something on which these days the teams of archaeologists, construction company and municipal work to meet the deadlines set in mid-November. In this sense, work is being carried out on the organization of the urban development actions that will begin at the viewpoint and that will lead to the improvement of the stairs that lead to it.
