Open to the public 'MUT ART', the new exhibition of Boca del Calvari that combines art and sustainability

‘MUT ART. Plastic mutations towards art', a joint exhibition by the artists Olga Diego and PEPesART, can now be visited at the Boca del Calvari Museum. An exhibition in which both artists display their projects with a common link, reused plastic as an artistic element, and which it is intended to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and the preservation of the environment.

The councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer; Both artists and the curators of the exhibition, Annamaria Parejo and Rafa Soria, participated yesterday in the opening of the exhibition, which was also attended by members of the Municipal Corporation and in which the public was able to tour the four floors of the museum to see all the details of the work of Olga Diego and PEPesART.

Pellicer explained that "when last year we began to design the programming of the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage for 2022, we planned it is thinking that at each moment the exhibitions and interventions would revolve around a specific theme." After the first part of the year dedicated to women, sustainability is now the focus of programming, "at a time, the summer, when the population of Benidorm multiplies by four or five, and that is precisely when it is most evident that the city is synonymous with sustainability and sustainable management”.

The mayor of Historical and Cultural Heritage assured that it is “a privilege” to be able to “give even more visibility to this commitment to sustainability, to the preservation and care of the environment through art; in this case, through the eyes and perspective of Olga Diego and PEPesART”.

The curators of the exhibition conveyed that through MUT ART "a reflection on the role that plastic plays in our daily lives and the problems that its use and abuse cause on the ecosystem" is established.

To 'MUT ART' Olga Diego contributes three proposals: 'Automated Garden', 'JA Laboratory' and 'Mutations'. In the first, he takes Bosch's 'Garden of Earthly Delights' as his starting point to recreate a magical and dreamlike world full of fantastic beings: humanoids with antennae breasts, two-headed characters, mutated giraffes, fish with legs and endless creatures animated, all of them with translucent bodies and equipped with motors that breathe air-life into them.

In 'LABORATORY JA', for Olga Diego “the true jewel”, the public will learn through sketches, patterns, drawings and electrical systems how Olga Diego creates her pieces and gives them life, and will also find a series of photographs of the step of 'Automated Garden' in cities such as Taipei, Paris or Valencia.

Finally, as an exclusive for this exhibition, the artist presents 'Mutations', the last process of her work, the transformation of her articulated beings into solid pieces that keep the essence of what they were. Olga Diego indicated yesterday that "there are already 6" transformed pieces in the exhibition.

PEPesART, for its part, contributes its 'PlastificArte', made up of sculptural pieces with multiple readings that arise from the alteration of the plastic that the artist has subjected to processes of casting, dissection, baking, freezing or cutting. Along with the sculptures, her colourful photographic series is exhibited, also the result of the treatment of the plastic that becomes an abstract landscape of great beauty.

During the exhibition's opening, the artist highlighted that the 'MUT ART' proposal is based on "the common concern" shared with Olga Diego for the conservation of the environment, and "it works like a brutal totem".
The exhibition can be visited until next October 2.
