The main objective is to reduce the accident rate and have an Action Plan before the end of the year

First working meeting to draft the Global Road Security Plan for Benidorm

12 June 2018
Primera reunión de trabajo para redactar el Plan Global de Seguridad Vial de Benidorm

Today, the first meeting of the working group has held at Benidorm City Council, which will be responsible for drafting the Global Road Safety Plan for Benidorm, a plan whose main objective is "to reduce accidents" and which will complement those already developed by the Government of Spain and the Valencian Government.

In this first meeting were present the councilor of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate; the Chief of the Local Police, Juan Fuertes; the Traffic Superintendent of the Local Police, Pedro Moya; technicians in the areas of Engineering, Mobility and Information Technology, as well as technical drafters of the SUMP.

Today a first contact to lay the foundations of work in the new document, which will determine among other issues where to invest and where to act to solve the road accident problems that may be in Benidorm.

The preparation of the Plan will be carried out in four stages. The first one will be the one of 'Diagnosis and Characterization', in which it will be determined what is the current scenario and the possible problems of road safety that occur in the city. To this end, we are already working in collaboration with the Local Police Attestation Section, studying all the traffic accidents registered in the city in the last two years and compiling the mobility indicators and road safety actions adopted since December 2016.

Once the diagnosis is made, the phase of 'Formulation of objectives and proposals' will begin. Based on the generic objectives inherent to any Road Safety Plan, the local objectives will be added and the actions to be developed will be considered.

After that phase, the Action Plan will be drawn up to achieve those objectives and it is expected to be ready for the month of October or November. In this Plan, the actions to be implemented each year and their cost will be programmed temporarily. The fourth and final stage will be the 'Evaluation and Monitoring', which will verify the usefulness and effectiveness of the measures adopted and the possible redefinition of local objectives and new actions to be implemented.
