The expansion works of Raúl Mesa pavilion are advancing at a good pace one month after the start

The expansion and reform works of the Raúl Mesa pavilion of the Ciudad Deportiva Guillermo Amor are advancing at a good pace, as the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, confirmed this morning, during a visit to them this morning accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, and Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The action, which also includes improving accessibility, began a month ago and is budgeted at 900,474 euros. It has a grant from the Provincial Council of Alicante of 294,000 euros within the call for 'Plan + Cerca 2020' and an execution period of six months, so it should be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

The current pavilion is more than 35 years old and, despite the investments made in recent years, it had some problems with humidity and deficiencies typical of the age of the enclosure. For this reason, it was considered necessary to carry out improvement actions not only on the roof but also other interventions that allow the installation to be universally accessible, as well as space for spectators, the media, etc.

The purpose of the action is to repair the roof to solve the problems of humidity. This work focuses especially on supporting the roof with the perimeter enclosure walls. Likewise, the system of water evacuation gutters, which also has damage, will be eliminated to redirect rainwater through runoff from the roof, which will lead to a new gutter on the main façade and a system for redirecting the discharge of water on the façade. north or later.

Similarly, the pavilion will be expanded to the east side, located next to the main access, building a new grandstand for spectators. Under the new grandstand, new changing rooms and toilets will be located to allow universal accessibility.

The aim of these improvement works is to "provide the building with better conditions of use and safety". As the mayor Toni Pérez explained during the visit, it is a project "with which the recurrent problems of humidity are solved after more than 35 years of operation and the facilities are dimensioned to the current needs".

"We continue in this way" added the first mayor "advancing in the strategy of constant improvement of the facilities of the Guillermo Amor sports city to offer the athletes of Benidorm the best possible facilities".

Pérez has also indicated that "a part of the work is aimed at eliminating architectural and other barriers, so that the site is accessible to all people, advancing in the commitment to universal accessibility in all buildings, facilities, and infrastructure of the city”. Toni Pérez underlined that when projecting this intervention also "the integration of the new spaces in the environment was prioritized".
