The activity is complemented by visits to the El Campello plant so that schoolchildren can learn about its operation and the importance of waste management

The Consorci Mare organises talks to raise awareness about the Environment and recycling in schools in Benidorm

15 October 2024
El Consorci Mare organiza charlas para concienciar sobre el Medio Ambiente y el reciclaje en colegios de Benidorm

The Consorci Mare, the body in charge of implementing the provisions of the Zonal Waste Plan 6, management area A1, has started an activity in Benidorm whose purpose is to raise awareness among young people about caring for the environment as well as the importance of recycling. These are talks given by environmental educators that will be offered in schools in the city to students of different ages.

The first of these talks was held today at the Serra Gelada school and was attended by the president of the Consorci Mare, José Ramón González de Zárate; accompanied by the councillors for the Environment and Education, Mónica Gómez and Maite Moreno.

This activity will be repeated in this same school on the 16th, 23rd and 25th of October from 9 am to 1.30 pm. It will also reach El Murtal school on November 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will end on November 19 and 26 at the Puig Campana school from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

However, González de Zárate has pointed out that this awareness campaign will also extend to the 52 municipalities that form part of the Consorci Mare so that it will reach some 8,000 schoolchildren from these towns. The campaign is financed by the Generalitat Valenciana, which has allocated a budget of 300,000 euros.

The campaign is also complemented by another activity consisting of visits to the plant that the Consorci Mare has in El Campello, also for schoolchildren "so that they know how it works, the function it has and the role it plays in waste management." "We believe that awareness and pedagogy in the environment are important. If these values are taught to the youngest children, they will transmit them” said González de Zárate. The Puig Campana school will go to the plant on October 22 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. while the El Murtal school will do so on November 25 and 26.

Environmental educators put a lot of emphasis on recycling because “they must know about it from a young age and know what is deposited in each container and that they tell their parents. That is what we are doing.” For this reason, in the talks at the schools, there is a lot of emphasis on “the concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling as the three pillars of the circular economy, the new production model that we are moving towards to be more sustainable, efficient and respectful of the environment.”
