The City Council renews its commitment to the 'Escola de Frikis' program of the UMH Science Park
Benidorm City Council has renewed its commitment to the educational program 'Escola de Frikis', managed by the Scientific Park of Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche. A program that aims to promote responsible use and consumption of technologies among the youngest through attractive and attractive methodologies. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the director-manager of the Scientific Park of the UMH, Tonia Salinas, have signed this morning the collaboration agreement in the consistory facilities.
Through this educational program born in 2016, Benidorm's children will be able to access computer programming classes that will allow them to promote their problem solving, logic and creativity skills. Benidorm, which was one of the pioneering centers in implementing this initiative, offers classes adapted to children from first to sixth grade in a classroom donated by the City Council.
'Escola de Frikis' is based on the concept of STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), a novel way to train the youngest in the disciplines of Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology. In order to reduce the gap between the sexes in more technological jobs or linked to engineering, the initiative seeks to introduce women in the technological world from primary education.
During the meeting, the mayor stressed that "this second edition of 'Escola de Frikis' in Benidorm corroborates the good reception that the program had last year, as the number of students has grown, and shows how it covered the expectations of participating children ". Perez stressed that "the Department of Education will continue to bet on this program, as its philosophy is to enhance the talent and skills of our younger neighbors."
Tonia Salinas, meanwhile, has highlighted the effort made from the UMH Scientific Park to offer a comprehensive educational program in which the youngest can be trained in the disciplines of the future while enjoying learning. "Our program Escola de Frikis seeks to awaken the concerns of children for the use of technology and information technology, and facilitate their access to qualified jobs in the future," he said.
'Escola de Frikis' is an initiative aimed at Primary Education Centers that aims to promote the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics among children between 6 and 12 years of different Primary courses as an extracurricular activity in their schools . This program is also a boost to the future of these young people since, according to the European Union outlook, in 2020 more than 800,000 jobs related to the IT and Telecommunications sector will be needed.
