The City Council informs merchants and neighbors of El Calvari district about the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño Street

19 November 2016
El Ayuntamiento informa a comerciantes y vecinos de El Calvari sobre la peatonalización de Tomás Ortuño

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; Municipal technicians and managers of the company Sigma, have explained to the merchants and neighbors of El Calvari neighborhood the timing and details of the pedestrianization work on the lower part of Tomás Ortuño Street, between El Mercado and La Garita streets. This briefing took place yesterday in the Hall of Acts of the Casa del Fester, and during the same doubts raised by those affected were clarified.

The work of pedestrianization begins this next Monday, November 21,to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. To do this, all the curbs will be removed, leaving sidewalks at the same height. In addition to replacing the pavement, the work also provides for the arrangement of the rainwater and potable water network. Once the work is completed, only residents and vehicles of loading and unloading in the schedule that is enabled for this activity will be able to transit through this stretch of Tomás Ortuño.

During the duration of the work, loading and unloading will be carried out from Ramós Carratalá street and residents will be able to access their garages from Avenida de Ruzafa.

In the course of the meeting, neighbors and traders have also been informed of the work being done from the City Council to design a Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development and Integration (EDUSI), with which it aims to obtain European funds to carry out in the next six years a series of actions that improve the quality of life of citizens.

The elaboration of the EDUSI is in the full process of participation and that is why the mayor and the technicians have encouraged the citizens to take part filling in the questionnaires that have been enabled in the web www.edusibenidorm.org. From these questionnaires it is hoped to extract relevant information about the reality of Benidorm and its needs.
