This is the tenth woman murdered so far this year and the 1,304th since 2003, the year in which these figures began to be recorded

The City Council expresses its condemnation of the latest sexist murder committed in Huelva

Benidorm City Council demonstrated today at noon against gender-based violence following the latest gender-based crime confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence against a 55-year-old woman, murdered by her partner in the province of Huelva last Thursday. The silent demonstration took place at noon outside City Hall. It was led by Benidorm's First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, along with the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and other local council members.

The woman was murdered with a hammer by her partner, against whom there had been no prior reports of gender-based violence. The woman, however, was part of the Viogen system, although by a previous partner and not by the one she was currently living with.

With the confirmation of this case, this is the tenth woman murdered by a partner or ex-partner this year. The number of women murdered due to gender-based violence in Spain since 2003 has reached 1,304 victims. This data began to be collected that year.

The Department of Equality reminds us that Benidorm City Council has staff specialised in violence against women to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims can access the free 016 hotline, which leaves no trace on their phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from their cell phone call logs. This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and in 52 languages.

Also, in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If a call is not possible and a dangerous situation arises, you can use the ALERTCOPS app, which will send an alert signal to the police with geolocation information. All of these assistance measures can be activated by the victim, as well as by anyone who knows of or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It is a duty of all society.
