The City Council exposes to the Mobility Council the details of the main actions that are being carried out in the city

The Mobility Council has held a new session today in the Plenary Hall of the City Council in which its members have been informed of the development of the main actions that are being carried out in the city. A session that has focused on the development of the IDAE I and II programs for the renovation of public lighting, the burying of Beniardá avenue, or the interventions in avenues such as Severo Ochoa, Armada Española, Villajoyosa, and Montecarlo.

"In total, we have explained to all the associations and groups more than twenty actions that are being carried out or are about to end related to Mobility" has indicated the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate.

Regarding the execution of the IDAE programs, the municipal technicians have explained that the first phase of the same, corresponding to the Central zone, has acted on 2,517 light points, which already have LED technology and 54 control centers. This means renewing 73.81% of lighting in the area and a reduction in installed power from 441.2 kW to 119.53.

The second phase of this program corresponds to the renewal of lighting in the Levante area and the intervention acts on 3,512 points of light and 55 control centers. It means renewing 43.85% of the 7,660 points of light that exist in the area and reducing the installed power from 759.59 kW to 195.01 kW. The IDAE programs, three in total, will be executed between 2021 and 2023 with an investment of just over six million, of which the Institute finances half, with money from European funds.

Regarding Villajoyosa Avenue, the construction of a roundabout to regulate vehicle traffic at the confluence with Marina Baixa to improve road safety and mobility has been reported. These works also entail the renovation of and improvement of services such as rainwater collection, sewage pipes, and the drinking water network.

In Severo Ochoa, the actions have focused on the replacement and improvement of the drinking water and sewage network, as well as the renovation of the sidewalks, giving continuity to the aesthetics that had been implemented before in Ametlla de Mar. mobility with the creation of a roundabout at the intersection with Otto de Hapsburg and the renovation of street lighting and furniture is included.

The renovation of the drinking water and sanitation infrastructures of Montecarlo avenue, which covers a section of about 500 meters from Berlin to Paris streets, with a budget of 1.1 million euros and ten months of execution, has also been reported. A "very necessary" work because the pipes and conduits are very old and had to be replaced.

Similarly, one of the issues addressed has been the works in the Spanish Navy for the implementation of the Low Emissions Zone (ZBE), which began at the beginning of this month and will be carried out in approximately two months. The first phase of this action includes the section that goes from Xixo Avenue to the Red Cross roundabout, at the intersection with Vicente Llorca Alós, with an investment of more than 1.2 million and the support of the Provincial Council within the Planifica project.

Specifically, the provincial body contributes 249,360 euros to this project with which the city advances in "sustainability and sustainable mobility", something that "is part of Benidorm's DNA" González de Zárate pointed out. The area covers an area of ​​24,000 square meters, which "will be transformed to address more sustainable mobility", in which "we gain space for pedestrians" while also being "more consistent with the protection of the environment" he said.

The objective of this action is to promote the use of soft means of mobility -bicycles and personal mobility vehicles- and move the private vehicle to dissuasive car parks further from the city center such as Xixo or Beniardá avenue. To this end, the creation of a single platform is planned, as well as actions to encourage the use of bicycles and minimize CO2 emissions.

"In general, we try to find the best formulas to maintain the parking of neighbors, that do not have an impact on traffic or affect as little as possible," said the mayor, who has expressed his conviction that "as far as possible" at Easter, there will no longer be any public works underway.

González de Zárate has once again asked the neighbors for “patience and tranquility” and has recalled that with each intervention “we improve the roads and services, we change the lighting and we make the area more accessible”. The councilor concluded by reiterating that "we hope that in the month of February 90% of the works will be finished", which will mean "that the city will improve a lot and will be more comfortable and friendly for everyone".
