The City Council approves a subsidy of 40,000 euros for the Society for the Protection of Animals and Plants

The City Council of Benidorm has approved, one more year, a nominative subsidy of 40,000 euros to the 'Marina Baixa' Animal and Plant Protection Society for the work that the entity provides to the municipality in the collection, custody, maintenance and veterinary care of the abandoned animals found in the city. The Local Government Board (JGL) yesterday approved the disposition of this expense and "in the coming weeks, the agreement will be signed in which the terms of collaboration between the City Council and the entity are collected", as explained by the Councilor for Health, Mónica Gómez.

Gómez has indicated that "this subsidy covers the costs of caring for abandoned animals that are collected on public roads." At this point, she recalled that "the Municipal Environment Ordinance considers the abandonment of domestic animals as a 'very serious infraction', sanctioning these behaviours with fines of up to 900 euros".

Aside from this task of collecting, guarding and caring for abandoned animals, "the Animal Shelter carries out important informative work in favour of respect and care for animals, which must also be valued and highlighted".

The councillor of Health has added that "since mid-March, the City Council and the Animal Shelter have launched a new initiative for raising awareness of animal care and to promote responsible adoption." Specifically, "the municipal radio station Onda Benidorm -100.6- has a weekly space, 'Amigos Invisibles', which is broadcast live on Fridays at 11:00 a.m. and in which an animal found in the facilities of the Protective to look for an adoption family and thus allow him to live in a home.

The eight programs have promoted the adoption of seven dogs. Of these, five have already been adopted and a sixth is in the process of being adopted. All the programs are available in the Onda Benidorm Podcast window and on the station's social networks.
