Benidorm City Council has already added to the municipal website www.benidorm.org an interactive map with more than 60 cardio-protected public and private buildings in the city to facilitate a rapid response in the event of an emergency. The Councilor for Health, Ana Pellicer, has indicated that this initiative “allows any user to quickly and from any device consult the spaces equipped with a defibrillator that is closest to their location, giving us the option to be able to offer a response.” agile to assist a person who has suffered cardiorespiratory failure while the health services arrive.” The councillor added that it is a “very simple” action, but at the same time it can help save many lives.

A few weeks ago, the City Council began the preparation of this map of 'DESA Points', with the idea of incorporating in a single document all the public and private buildings in the city that have these mobile semi-automatic defibrillators and, in this way, facilitating the access to them in the event of an emergency. To do this, it requested collaboration from business and civic associations to convey this project to their associates so that any service or company with this element of protection could appear on the map.

The result of these efforts has allowed the incorporation into this first version of “a total of 64 spaces, of which twelve are in municipal buildings and among which there are also educational centres, hotels, apartments, gyms, campsites, sports clubs and other public services,” according to the councillor.

Ana Pellicer has explained that to access the 'DESA Points' map, simply enter the Benidorm City Council website www.benidorm.org, on whose main page there is a link that redirects you directly to this resource. From there, a list has been incorporated with all the places where a defibrillator can be found, a map with the geolocation of each of them and when selecting one, a legend with information on the exact point of the establishment where it is located. the device is located. For example: “hall next to 1st-floor cafeteria”, “reception”, “entering the warehouse on the right”, etc. The councillor highlighted that “having this information quickly and clearly can be as valuable as being able to save a life or not.”

Finally, the person in charge of Health has indicated that the map remains open to incorporating new cardio-protected spaces in it, so hotels, shops, bars, restaurants, banks or offices that have one of these AED devices and have not yet transferred information, you can communicate it by email to sanidad@benidorm.org to be included in this digital resource. “Our intention is for this map to be as broad, operational and effective as possible and for us to be able to collaborate to continue saving lives,” the councillor added.

Location of the AEDs

Ana Pellicer recalled that the mobile defibrillators that the City Council currently has are located in the following offices: City Hall (Local Police checkpoint and entrance hall); entrance hall to Palau d’Esports l’Illa de Benidorm; offices of the Guillermo Amor Sports City; changing rooms at the Antonio López soccer fields; Municipal market; lobby of the Local Police headquarters; La Torreta Social Center; José Llorca Linares Social Center; Tanit Social Center; Cultural centre; and Permanent Adult School, the last one that has been incorporated.

In addition, there are those installed in Local Police vehicles. All of them, “with the ultimate goal of guaranteeing the best and fastest care in cases of heart failure, whether in these facilities or nearby,” according to Pellicer.
