The event, entitled "Peregrinatio. El Llibre Vermell," will take place at San Jaime Church at 8 p.m.
Capella de Ministrers will offer a concert on Sunday to commemorate the '700th Anniversary' of the Town Charter

This coming Sunday, May 18, the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna will host the commemorative concert for the 700th Anniversary of the Town Charter, led by the Capella de Ministrers group, entitled "Peregrinatio. El Llibre Vermell", conducted by Carles Magraner. The event will take place at 8:00 p.m. with free admission until the church is full.
The Capella de Ministrers is primarily dedicated to Spanish music prior to 1800, using reliable interpretation criteria for each period and historical instruments. The concert offered by Benidorm, based on the Red Book, "compiles pilgrimage songs that were undoubtedly known to the people," according to the program, which also notes that "most of the pieces in the book are popular."
The program to be performed includes the following pieces: ‘O virgo splendens in Monte Celso’, ‘Stella splendens in Monte’, ‘Laudeamus Virginem Mater est’, ‘Los set goyts recomptarem’, ‘Splendens ceptigera’, ‘Polorum Regina ómnium nostra’, ‘Cuncti simus concanentes: Ave Maria’, ‘Mariam Matrem Virginem’, ‘Morir, ffrares, nos convé’, ‘Imperayritz de la ciutat joyosa’, and ‘Ad mortem festinamu’.
Most of the works in the ‘Llibre Vermell’ are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and are part of the Marian fervour that swept Europe from the 13th century onwards, promoted especially by the Franciscan order, to which the origin of some fragments of the ‘Llibre Vermell’ is linked.
