Citizens will be able to enjoy the new avenue as soon as the period of confinement ends

The bulk of the remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue will be finished by mid-May

28 April 2020
El grueso de la remodelación de Mediterráneo estará terminado para mediados de mayo

The remodeling work of Mediterráneo Avenue and adjacent streets will be practically finished by mid-May, so "the public will be able to enjoy it as soon as the period of confinement, of the state of alarm, ends." This has been advanced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who explained that “the work is progressing at a very good pace and by the first weeks of May the bulk of the work will have been completed, with only a few auctions being completed in the following weeks "Once the supply problems derived from the alarm state are solved and in this case it has affected the pavement."

Specifically, until mid-May, pavement manufacturing will not resume, designed exclusively for Mediterráneo Avenue, so its placement in the section between Doctor Orts Llorca Avenue and Emilio Romero Avenue will be pending, although the section it will be totally passable. In the rest of the avenue, the entire pavement will be ready, as well as in the three blocks of Europa Avenue closest to Mediterráneo - up to Ibiza street with a different design -, which will also be fully finished when finishing the state of alarm.

Regarding lighting, the mayor reported that "by the end of this week, all the lighting columns and spotlights will be installed, and it is expected the placement of the suspended lighting spheres planned for La Hispanidad square and Mediterráneo Avenue ”. Meanwhile, urban furniture is already being installed on the avenue.

The mayor recalled that the remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue and adjacent streets is "the most important work that has been done with the municipal budget", since it involves an investment of 11.4 million euros. An investment that has allowed not only to act on this fundamental artery of Benidorm but also on a large part of Europa Avenue, La Hispanidad square and El Puente street, as well as in the adjacent roads, completely remodeling “a fundamental part of our urban fabric ”. But "beyond updating the image of one of our main arteries with a unique, innovative and totally avant-garde design, this project has meant a qualitative leap in what refers to our vital hydraulic infrastructures that furrow its entrails and that were obsolete, it could have collapsed if we had not acted on them ”.
