The Board of Spokespersons has agreed to grant the 'Distinción Europa' to the director of Alicante-Elche airport, Santiago Martínez-Cava Arenas, who for a decade has been in charge of this aerodrome and that from June 1 will provide service in the terminal of Gran Canaria. The Mayor, Toni Pérez, explained that "this May marks the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of Alicante-Elche airport, an event that once again highlights the enormous importance that Benidorm had for the launching of these facilities. "
Pérez recalled that the City Council already recognized in 2014 the airport with the Tourism Prize 'Ciudad de Benidorm', "a well deserved award that now is justly complete with the figure of who has been its director for the last decade and has placed Alicante-Elche airport not only between the best airports in Spain, but Europe. "
This award will be presented on 9 May, coinciding with the celebration of the institutional day of Europe. A day before, on May 8, Benidorm Day will also be celebrated with an institutional plenary, as well as a series of events that have been closed in the same Board of Spokesmen and with which Benidorm commemorates the 692 anniversary of the granting of the Poblament Charter. In addition, the meeting also planned the visit to Benidorm next Thursday of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Matilde Asian.
During the meeting, the mayor has moved his intention to convene next week an extraordinary plenary to approve definitively the municipal budget of 2017; while the groups of the corporation have asked that the technicians clarify in informative commission the scope of the last sentence about the edition of the Low Festival of 2013, that forces the City Council to pay to the mercantile organizer 237,000 Euros plus interests. The opposition has also asked the government to transfer the latest draft of the agreement with the Society of Thematic Projects of the Valencian Community (SPTCV) to resume the works of the cultural center.
