The project will be carried out in El Moralet and Serra Gelada with contributions from European funds from Edusi and Benidorm DTI + Safe Plan

Benidorm will expand its sports tourism offer with circuits for 'runners' and BTT

01 October 2020
Benidorm ampliarà la seua oferta de turisme esportiu amb circuits per a 'runners' i BTT...

The Benidorm Athletics Club and BTT Section of Benidorm Cycling Union will be in charge of designing the new trails for mountain runners and all-terrain bicycles that will cross part of Serra Gelada and the Moralet section. Sports entities have responded affirmatively to the proposal made by the City Council that will materialize in this way part of two of the great city initiatives in which it is immersed: the Sustainable and Comprehensive Urban Development Strategy (Edusi) and Benidorm DTI + Seguro.

Representatives of the two sports entities have met this morning with the councilors of Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, Sports, Mariló Cebreros; and Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate; in the Moralet area. The meeting is part of the campaign ‘On the street’, promoted by the Department of Citizen Participation together with the Neighborhood Council, represented on this occasion by its vice president, Manuel Sánchez Notario.

Ana Pellicer highlighted the "good reception" that the initiative has had among athletes and announced that "our clubs are going to get down to work on the design of the signage" of what the different routes will be "with different difficulties and adapted so that they can be enjoyed by everyone, from the smallest to the great professionals of mountain biking, running or trail ”.

The head of Citizen Participation has detailed that "from next year" these new routes "will see the light" and has specified that their creation will be possible thanks to European funds obtained by Edusi; and those from the Benidorm DTI + Safe Plan, announced yesterday by the mayor, Toni Pérez.

Likewise, Pellicer has reported on the installation in the Moralet area, adjacent to the athletics tracks of the 'Guillermo Amor' Sports City, of a 'Sports Information Point' which can be accessed by anyone “who wants to enjoy sport and of nature where you will find information on the different routes to take ”. The City Council will launch an application in which the user "can download the routes and follow them through a GPS device."

For her part, Mariló Cebreros has been very satisfied to join the ‘At the foot of the street’ project and even more so with an initiative that will create “marked roads in three different categories so that all kinds of people can use them”. The mayor thanked the collaboration "so important" of local sports clubs and has made it clear that "without them this would be impossible."

The trails for joggers and mountain bikes will have different difficulties and routes “starting with the kids”. “We want - Cebreros said - to offer Benidorm one more option to do sports, to enjoy nature because Benidorm is more than sun and beach, we have many more options”.

Regarding the Sports Information Point, Cebreros has detailed that it will be a facility where users can leave tools or tune up their bicycles. Information will also be offered on the sports offer to people who pass by.
