Benidorm will deliver the City Medal to José Pedro Pérez-Llorca, one of the 'fathers' of the Constitution

Benidorm entregará la Medalla Corporativa a José Pedro Pérez-Llorca, uno de los ‘padres’ de la Constitución

The Board of Spokesmen has agreed, at the proposal of the mayor, Toni Pérez, to deliver Benidorm City Medal to the lawyer José Pedro Pérez-Llorca from Benidorm, one of the 'fathers' of the Spanish Constitution. His father, the ophthalmologist José Pérez-Llorca has a street in the city.

José Pedro Pérez-Llorca will receive this distinction on December 6, coinciding with the anniversary of the approval of the Magna Carta, during the traditional institutional plenary of the Constitution Day, which is expected to be held at Plaza de España at 12:00h. 

Born in Cádiz, Pérez-Llorca was one of the seven speakers of the Constitution approved in 1978. Deputy of the Union of the Democratic Center (UCD) for Madrid, was Minister of the Presidency, Territorial Administration and Foreign Affairs during the Governments of Adolfo Suárez and Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo. In his time as a minister, he began negotiations for the accession of Spain to the European Union, and was one of the driving forces behind the entry of Spain into NATO.

Jurist of recognized prestige, is Doctor Honoris Causa by the National University at Distance (UNED), and the universities of León and Cádiz. He also chairs the Board of the Prado Museum since 2012, and belongs to: the Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid (CACCM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI), the Private Law Institute of Amsterdam, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Arbitral Court of the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid (CACCM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI) ), the Private Law Institute of Amsterdam, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
