Benidorm will ask to stop the reduction of transferable flows through the Tajo-Segura

Benidorm Municipal Corporation will vote in the next plenary session on a motion of the Popular Municipal Group in which it is requested to urge the Government of Spain and the Ministry of Ecological Transition to stop, immediately, any legal or regulatory instrument intended to modify the operating rules for the Tajo-Segura Transfer.

The development of the Hydrological Plan for the Basin of the Tagus Hydrographic Demarcation is underway and it is expressly requested to wait for its conclusion because it will be then when all the hydrological data, reserves and measurement programs that will be collected in it are specified .

Likewise, the Government of Spain is required to agree with the end users on any change in the current exploitation scenario of the Tajo-Segura Aqueduct.

Finally, the motion requests that the resolution adopted by the Plenary be transferred to the Government of Spain, the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Parliamentary Groups of the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, the Government of the Generalitat Valenciana, to the Table of Les Corts and groups with representation in the Diputación de Alicante.

The argumentation that bases the motion of the Popular Municipal Group in Benidorm City Council considers the proposal of the Government of Spain to modify Royal Decree 773/2014, of September 12, as inappropriate, arbitrary, lacking due justification, not supported by hydrological reasons and that it even interferes in the process of reviewing the Tagus Hydrological Plan, which is being developed.

The Government's proposal consists of a reduction in transferable flows of 11 hm3 per month in level 2 (when the joint stocks of Entrepeñas and Buendía reservoirs are less than 1,300 hm³), going from the 38 hm3 / month currently in force to 27 hm3 / month. The proposal also proposes raising the threshold of minimum accumulated volume available to carry out transfers in the change from level 1 to 2, which is currently 12,000 hm3, raising it to 14,000 hm3, which further reduces the possibilities of transfers.

For these reasons, the motion to be debated by the Benidorm City Council in plenary session asks to paralyze this Royal Decree as inappropriate and clearly arbitrary.

And with this issue of the Tajo-Segura transfer, Benidorm has participated this morning in the Provincial Water Commission, convened urgently by the president of the Provincial Council, Carlos Mazón, who has raised a common front of the Southeast, with Andalusia and Murcia, in defense of the Tajo Segura Transfer and its current Exploitation Regulations.

Already last Tuesday, the 13th, Mazón met the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, considering both that the sending of water contributions through this infrastructure is inalienable for the province of Alicante and the Region of Murcia, a matter in question. which has also involved the Valencian Business Confederation, CEV, in support of the province of Alicante, taking the issue to the employers of Andalusia and Murcia. Even unions like UGT, and PSOE in the Valencian Community, have positioned themselves against the cuts or have rejected a decrease in the transfer of water resources.

The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, has assisted the Provincial Water Commission in which it has been requested that any possible modification of the Tajo-Segura Transfer regime must comply with the Basin Plans.
