The City Council estimates that the planned investment to carry out the works will amount to 12,217,889 euros

Benidorm puts out to tender the drafting of projects for 11 actions to renew drinking water and sewage infrastructure

Benidorm licita la redacción de los proyectos de 11 actuaciones para renovar infraestructuras de agua potable y alcantarillado

Benidorm City Council has launched the bidding process for eleven projects to renovate the city's drinking water and sewage infrastructure. These projects will cover virtually all areas of the city and will complement the work already completed over the past ten years.

The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, announced these investments this morning during a visit to the two new additions to the open-air Water Museum located in the Sequia Mare Park. These are two booster pumps that were previously located at the pumping station on Avenida del Mediterráneo. The mayor specified that the estimated budget for drafting the eleven projects "will amount to €551,540," while the total investment once the renovation work is completed "will exceed €12 million." Specifically, the estimated investment is €12,217,889.

Toni Pérez highlighted the City Council's "commitment" to the renewal and improvement of the city's water infrastructure, stating that "it demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainability, efficient water management, and public-private partnerships." He emphasised that, together with Veolia, the concessionaire for the Water Cycle, "nearly 70 million euros have been invested over the last 20 years to renew outdated infrastructure."

In this regard, he cited the more than 21 million euros invested in improving the drinking water network, "allowing us to achieve 96% management efficiency," and the more than 13 million euros allocated to the renewal and maintenance of the sewage network. "We are clear that there will be no sustainability without efficient resource management," the mayor affirmed, adding that "these figures alone reveal the magnitude of our commitment, but they make even more sense when analysed in the context of maintaining excellent service year-round despite high tourist demand." Toni Pérez also highlighted that, thanks to all the investments made, the city has “a very significant capacity to respond, which is essential for a tourist city with such variable and high demand.”

The planned projects, for which the contracting process for drafting the plans has already begun, are as follows: Renewal of drinking water and sewage infrastructure on Ibiza Street (section from Murcia to Filipinas), Lepanto Street (section from Orts Llorca to Murcia), and on Noruega, Islandia, Goya and adjacent streets, Santander, Estocolmo (section from Ametlla de Mar to París), Berlín, Juan Fuster Zaragoza, and Bélgica streets. In addition, a forest fire prevention system will be implemented in the area surrounding the Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP).

Finally, Toni Pérez emphasised that these investments “make Benidorm a benchmark in sustainability and water efficiency and ensure the future of our city and our tourism.”
