This morning the thirty-second edition of Pilota Nadal Trophy of Benidorm was presented, Memorial Vicent Pérez Devesa, which, one more year, will be held at Trinquete Marina Baixa in Benidorm.
The Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, presented the event accompanied by the president of the Fundació per la Pilota Professional, Joan Alepuz; Vicent Pérez Agulló, son of the former mayor of Benidorm, a great defender of this indigenous sport and to whom the trophy is dedicated, Vicente Pérez Devesa and the pelotaris Pere Roc II, Giner, Santi and Héctor.
Vicente Pérez Devesa Memorial is "the oldest and longest-running tournament of this sport" of those that take place at Christmas time, Cebreros recalled and announced that on Sunday 19 the youth semifinals will take place and at noon "the great game ”Between Genovés II and Nacho, red, against Pere Roc II and Pere, blue.
The following Sunday, the 26th, it will be the turn of the second youth semifinals and at 12 noon, Giner and Héctor will compete as reds against those in blue, Francés and Santi.
To enjoy the finals, we will have to wait until Sunday, January 2. The youth will be at 10.30 and the professional at 12.00. Finally, Cebreros has encouraged the entire population, and "all the fans of the region" to attend the first major sporting event of 2022.
On his part, Joan Alepuz, vindicated the figure of the former mayor of Benidorm, Vicente Pérez Devesa “an exceptional person”, a “lover of the pilot” whom “we always have in our memories”.
Alepuz recalled that in the regions of the Marina Alta and Baja the sport of the Valencian pilot "has always had a very strong tradition" and has emphasized that it was in them that the 'escala i corda' modality was born. The president of the foundation has advanced "the success" of the memorial because all the players "are all in excellent shape."
In his speech, Vicent Pérez Alepuz, recalled "the love and affection" that his father transmitted to autochthonous sports, thanked the City Council and Foundation for support and, as the 'marxador' says, "Va de bo!" . On his part, Pere Roc II, has expressed his intention to "end the year playing on the Benidorm trinquet and hopefully, on the 2nd, start the year playing too" at the same facility.
