Equality recalls the 016 telephone service for victims, which is available in 52 languages

Benidorm shows its rejection of the latest murder due to sexist violence that occurred in Spain

13 June 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

With a silent rally at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España, members of the Benidorm municipal Corporation, led by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the acting councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, showed their rejection of the latest murder by the violence of genus registered last weekend.

This murder occurred on Sunday in the Catalan town of Cornellà del Vallés, where a 34-year-old man killed his partner, 39, in the presence of their two-year-old daughter.

With this case, there are already 22 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,206 since 2003, the date on which victims of gender violence began to be counted. In addition, as reported by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, there are currently two other cases under investigation.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
