Equality recalls the 016 telephone service for victims available in 52 languages

Benidorm shows its rejection of the latest murder due to gender violence in Jerez de la Frontera

05 May 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has shown today its rejection of the latest murder due to gender violence that took place on April 27 in Cadiz, in the town of Jerez de la Frontera. With a silent concentration at Plaza de Sus Majestades Reyes de España led by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and by the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, the Municipal Corporation, and neighbors have condemned this new crime and remembered the victim.

She is a 39-year-old woman, as reported by the Government Delegation against gender violence. The investigation concluded that the person responsible for the crime is the same man who called the Police to report that his partner had committed suicide, a circumstance that later proved to be untrue since the victim had been murdered.

With this there are already 14 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,197 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
